When you take out a Dignity Funeral Insurance policy it’s important you understand how your policy works. This article takes you through some of the questions you might have about a Dignity Funeral Insurance policy.

How does Dignity Funeral Insurance work?

Dignity Funeral Insurance is a life insurance policy that provides a cash payout for your loved ones when you pass away. They can use the payout to help cover funeral costs or however they need. If you’re an Australian resident aged 50 to 80, you’re guaranteed to be accepted for our cover. You can choose to leave loved ones up to $15,0001, which can be used to help with funeral expenses or other costs your family might need help with.

Once your cover is in place and you continue to pay your premiums, you will be covered for the rest of your life.

How long will I have my policy for?

Dignity Funeral Insurance is a lifetime policy. This means as long as you pay your premiums, it will last the rest of your life, and when you die your loved ones will receive a payout. With Dignity Funeral Insurance you also no longer need to pay premiums, from the policy anniversary after your 90th birthday - but your cover will still continue for life.2

How long will I pay premiums for?

You will no longer have to pay premiums from the policy anniversary following your 90th birthday, but your cover will still continue for life.2

Can you make changes to your policy?

Yes, you can apply to make changes to your policy at any time, with no administrative costs.

How can my family make a claim on my policy?

To make a claim, your loved ones will need to get in contact with us as soon as possible. Our specialist team will help your family through the process. Our team will ask for some documentation from them. Once that has been submitted it will be processed by the claims team. We’ll aim to keep everything as simple and stress-free as possible for your loved ones.

Can I have multiple policies at the same time?

Yes you can have more than one policy at the same time – as long as your total benefit, combined across all your policies doesn’t exceed $15,000.

Can I have a joint policy or is it single only?

At Dignity Insurance our funeral insurance is designed to cover one person per policy. If you’d like both you and your partner to be covered, then you could each take out your own individual policy.

Why do guaranteed acceptance policies have a waiting period?

Guaranteed acceptance funeral insurance policies, like Dignity Funeral Insurance, often include a waiting period. This is because there are no medical exams or detailed health assessments required during the application process.

The waiting period helps insurers manage risk by preventing people from taking out cover right before they make a claim. During this period, you still pay your premiums, but the cash payout is limited to accidental death.

With Dignity Funeral Insurance, your payout becomes payable for death from any cause after 12 months of cover. You can learn more about this in our Product Disclosure Statement

Premiums for a non-smoker are lower than for a smoker of the same age and gender, with the same benefit amount. Dignity Funeral Insurance is an insurance policy and not a savings plan which means if your policy is cancelled, you will not get anything back (unless it is cancelled within the cooling off period). The total premiums you pay over the life of the policy could also be more than the benefits we pay out.
